National Advocacy and Action Goals:

  1. To pursue information and to advocate and take action at Federal level on Resolutions taken at the 34th Triennial Conference in 2009 and at the IFUW 30th Conference in 2010; also on Resolutions of continuing relevance from earlier AFUW and IFUW Triennial Conferences and the AFUW Indigenous Education Conference of 1998.
  2. To respond to developing situations within the framework of AFGW objectives and policies.
  3. To continue to develop our links with the National Women’s Alliances established by the Office for Women, in particular the Security4Women, (now Economic Security for Women) and WomenSpeak (now Equality Rights Australia), and to participate in OfW meetings wherever possible and to encourage such participation by STAs at State level.
  4. To develop our public profile by active participation in community consultations called by the Office for Women or by other relevant Federal, State or local government bodies.


Structural and Operational Goals:

  1. To develop a strategic plan for future of AFGW through the following measures:
    a) Increasing membership, with particular attention to the recruitment and mentoring of younger members and the retention of existing members;
    b) Establishing a Working Party to consider the implications of changes to IFUW Membership rules made at the 29th IFUW Conference in August 2007 now that this has been implemented by resolution at the 34th Triennial Conference.
  2. Continuing to develop a website which can be a showpiece for AFGW;
  3. Developing procedures for streamlining Council meetings and decision-making, especially through the use of email voting and telephone conferencing;
  4. Refining and strengthening the effective working of the Federal Executive Structure;
  5. Continuing to develop a strategy for the future management of the Education Trust funds;
  6. Gaining tax deductibility for donations to the AFGW Fellowship - Australian Scholarship Fund;
  7. Implementing the division of Council’s Standing Committees into Policy and Administrative Committees and redefining the relationship of these to Council;
  8. Strengthening the role of the Education, Status of Women and Peace and Human Security Standing Committees in developing policy and advocacy documents and helping them to develop as functioning entities;
  9. Strengthening the link between the national body of AFGW and the State and Territory Associations through an improved Communications system;
  10. Planning for a 35th Triennial Conference in Queensland in 2012 which will have broad appeal to the membership and the general public.


International Goals:

  1. To play an active part in the IFUW Conference in Mexico City in August supporting AFGW’s nominations for IFUW Officers and Committee Members.
  2. To pursue internationally the policies of IFUW, especially those resolved upon at the 30th IFUW Conference in August 2010, and to take, as appropriate, actions recommended by the IFUW 2010-2013 Programme for Action.
  3. To take an active part in IFUW work during the 2010-2013 triennium through AFGW members on the IFUW Board, Fellowship, Finance, Projects and Hegg Hoffet Committees should all candidates be successfully appointed
  4. To make preparations for AFGW participation in the 31st IFUW Conference
  5. To continue to work for the further development of the Pacific Graduate Women’s Network and the fulfillment of its objectives as defined in its constitution.
  6. To proceed with planning for PGWNet Council Meetings held over the next triennium under the leadership of AFGW in 2010 and then NZFGW.
