IFUW Fellowships and Grants

The 2011/2012 IFUW International Fellowships and Grants Competition is now open. Only women graduates who are members of one of IFUW's national federations and associations (NFA) or IFUW Independent Members may apply. The awards are to be used for postgraduate research, study or training to be undertaken within the period 1 April 2011 to 11 December 2012. The application deadline is 1 October 2010.

The CFUW/A.Vibert Douglas Fellowship and the Ida Smedley MacLean Fellowships support postgraduate research requiring eight to twelve months’ work in a country other than that in which the applicant was educated or habitually resides. The British Federation Crosby Hall Fellowship is reserved for women wishing to study or undertake research in Great Britain. Applications for fellowships from women who have not already successfully completed the first year of a doctoral degree in a university recognised by IFUW will not be considered.

Winifred Cullis Grants and NZFGW Daphne Purves International Grants are for specialized training, independent research, or to assist in the completion of a postgraduate degree. Dorothy Leet Grants are reserved for women graduates from countries with a comparatively low per capita income and for those who either wish to work as experts in these countries or whose research is of value to such countries. Proposals for all grants require at least two months’ work in a country other than that in which the applicant was educated or habitually resides.

NFA members must apply through their national headquarters. Each NFA may propose up to three applicants. If more than three members of an NFA are interested in applying, the NFA is responsible for screening the applications and choosing the three who will compete in the final international competition.

The Australian Federation of Graduate Women (AFGW) has set the deadline of 22 August by which its members are to submit their applications at the national level.

This deadline should be early enough to allow for the pre-screening and selection process and to give ample time for the application material of the three applicants chosen to reach IFUW Headquarters in Geneva no later than 1 October 2010. Download the application form and guidelines.

Applications must be submitted electronically. Printed forms sent via the post or fax will not be considered. IFUW's Committee for the Award of International Fellowships will select the winners and submit the names for approval by the IFUW Board of Officers. The results will be announced by 1 March 2011.

Copies of the application form and the applicant instructions can be downloaded from the AFGW website. This material may also be downloaded from the IFUW website at: http://www.ifuw.org/fellowships/international.shtml.
